Legendary Producer/Director/Actor Sydney Pollack Dies at age 73

SP

This really does suck. Sydney Pollack has died of cancer. He was huge in the world of Hollywood. The guy was one of the few directors who could act in his own films. He wasn’t a filmmaker that used films as a vehicle for his acting career. He usually played bit parts, and turned them to memorable moments on film. Here’s a partial list of films he directed:

  1. Sketches of Frank Gehry (2005)
  2. The Interpreter (2005)
    … aka Interprète, L’ (France)
  3. Random Hearts (1999)
  4. Sabrina (1995)
    … aka Sabrina (Germany)
  5. The Firm (1993)
  6. Havana (1990/I)
  7. Out of Africa (1985)
  8. Tootsie (1982)
  9. Absence of Malice (1981)
  10. The Electric Horseman (1979)
  11. Bobby Deerfield (1977)
… aka Heaven Has No Favorites (Australia)
  12. Three Days of the Condor (1975)
… aka 3 Days of the Condor (Australia)
  13. The Yakuza (1974)
… aka Brotherhood of the Yakuza (UK: video title)
  14. The Way We Were (1973)
  15. Jeremiah Johnson (1972)
  16. They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? (1969)
  17. Castle Keep (1969)
  18. The Swimmer (1968) (uncredited)

Here’s a scene he did with Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie:
